The 12th Ethiopian
pastoralist day (EPD) celebrated |
| |
The
12th Ethiopian pastoralist day (EPD) celebrated magnificently
form 25th -26th Jan in the Jigjiga capital of the Somali
regional state under the motto "By Scaling up Our
Best Achievements, the Pastoralist Build Ethiopian Renaissance
on Strong Base".
The day was attended by senior federal & regional
government officials (including the President and prime
minister), pastoralists form actors the country, donors,
communities, charities & societies, researchers
and academicians, etc.
The core activities were:
1. The Prime Minister Meles Zenawi held discussion
with pastoralist in additions to awarding medals and
cups for 2009 development hero pastoralists &
gave statement on the occasion of the EPD.
2. The president, HE.Girma W/giorgis held discussion
with pastoralists' representatives on selected development
issue
3. The minister of ministry of federal affairs presented
annual report on 2008 achievements and in referring
to the 11th EPD resolution
4. H.E. Dawit Mohammed gave statement on the occasion
and his speech he stressed that the government committed
on pastoral development
5. A festivity on the dog include cultural songs &
Dance, children theater, camel show etc
6. A field visit on nearby development site also attended
7. Best experiences of regions presented and discussed

Pastoral friends journalist
club |
| |
PFE
has organized training workshop on Dec 25 –
26, 2009 at Adama and a field trip Dec 26 -31, 2009
to Borena zone for journalists. The purpose of the
training and the field mission is to build the journalists’
capacity in reporting issues of the pastoralists and
to create opportunity for the media people move to
grassroots pastoralist areas so as to report on their
potentials and limitation in relation to the socio-economic
as well as other related issues. Different journalists
have participated on the training as well as in the
field trip. |

process as per the new law (Proclamation 621/2009)
Charities and Societies since Sep 30th 2009. |

CAMEL FORUM ETHIOPIA inaugurates |
| |
A
Camel Forum Ethiopia was formed in inaugural workshop
held in Debrezeit from September 29-30, 2009. Papers
on camel husbandry and epidemiology have been presented.
A Steering committee of 15 members, in which PFE is
the one, has been established. In addition, Award
of Recognition for contributions made on camel development
were issued to 15 organizations including PFE . View

celebrated in Somali Regional Government in Jigjiga
Town from 25th-26th Jan 2010. The main organizing
committee and sub-committees have been formed at federal
and regional levels. PFE is the member of the main

Briefing held on Charities
and Societies Re-registration process for NGOs/CSOs |

On
September 20, 2009 PFE and Poverty Action Network
of Civil Society in Ethiopia (PANE) in partnership
with Charities and Societies Agency organized a half-a-day
briefing for NGOs/CSOs. The purpose of the briefing
was to update the NGO/CSO leaders on the re-registration
process. More than 146 participants from various NGOs/CSOs
were participated. The Agency Director, Ato Ali Siraj
and his team presented the re-registration requirements
and detail discussions were made. |

Rinderpest |
| |
Ethiopia
has won the International Animal Health Organization
(OIE) recognition by receiving the OIE certificate
indicating its freedom from Rinderpest cattle disease.
Ethiopia is now free from Rinderpest!
Dr. Taffese
Mesfin is PFE vice Board Chair and long serving
veterans veterinarian. He has participated in the
pre JP 15 and Follow-up Campaign and is awarded
a third level medal prize for his contribution in
eradicating Rinderpest cattle disease. PFE and PFE
Family, congratulate him for his wonderful achievement.

Training on change management
and Presentation on the new charities and societies
legistlation |
| |
PFE
has organized a quick workshop on the new
Charities and Societies legislation and training
on change management from April
11th and 12th, 2009 . The main purpose of
the workshop was to enhance the understanding of the
NGO leadership on the new Ngo environment. Two officials
from Ministry of justices were invited to brief the
legislation to the participants and also two senior
experts form Ethiopian management Institute were invited
for the change management training. More than 40 participants
form member and partner organization were presented. |

Celebration of 11th EPD |

The
Ethiopian Pastoralist Day would be celebrated in
Semera town of the Afar state at national
level with various events in Jan 25, 2008.
The day will be celebrated with the theme “we
ensure Ethiopian Renaissance on Firm Ground by Uploading
Achievements in the Pastoralist Community”.
The celebration includes discussion and sharing of
ideas about pastoral community and awarding ceremony
of model pastoralists. As part of the celebration
selected Woredas of Afar state will be visited to
ensure the on-going efforts of development and good
governance. The Ethiopian Pastoralist Day is jointly
organized by Ministry of Federal Affairs, Pastoralist
Affairs Standing committee of the HPR and Pastoralist
Forum Ethiopia. |

Community level workshop
on right based approaches |

The
workshop is implemented in Awash, Metehara,
KeyAfer form Dec 18-20, 2008 and in DireDawa from
Dec 20-22. The objective of the workshop
was to enable members of the pastoral target communities
to identify specific development issues and plans
that can lead to positive changes that they want to
see achieved. |

Pastoral Oriented Action
Research Training of Trainers |

Pastoral
Oriented Action research Training of Trainers was
held in Adama/Nazrete form Dec 04-06, 2008.
The main objective of the training are enhancing the
capacity of partner NGOs/CSOs on conducting Action
research on Key pastoral issues among pastoral communities,
and to identify specific development issues and plans
that can lead to positive changes. The participants
were PFE members and partners coming from a variety
of national NGOS working in pastoral areas. Different
contents were covered in the training like concept
and frame work of action research, types of research
and main characteristics, action research tools, introduction
to different data collection techniques, etc. |

Generic
Guideline for Promoting Gender Mainstreaming within
Pastoral organizations |

PFE
has initiated the preparation and launch of The
Generic Guideline for Promoting Gender Mainstreaming
within Pastoral organizations on November
21, 2008 at Imperial hotel.The purpose
of this guideline is contributing to attainment of
gender equality mainstreaming and empowerment of women
in the process of pastoral development interventions.
This gender guideline further aims highlights on conceptual
and practical framework of gender and to build up
common understandings on gender and issues related
to the design, implementation, and effectiveness of
development projects. Wider coverage is given to the
topic that deals with gender mainstreaming in context
pastoral development, as means of addressing critical
subjects of gender in project management.

Establisment of Somali
Pastoral Council |

Pastoralist
Forum Ethiopia in close collaboration with partners
has facilitated the establishment of Somali pastoral
council. The Somali pastoral council (SOREPAC) was
initiated in December 2007 in the Hudet(Somali region)
pastoral conference. The SOREPAC held its inauguration
ceremony from Oct 27-28 2008, jigjiga town. |

(Jan 26-27, 2008) in the Aba Geda Conference
