Pastoralist Forum
Ethiopia (PFE) commissioned a researcher to undertake
conflict situations in Afar and Kereyou pastoral domain.
The main purpose of the study is to support the advocacy
works of the forum on conflict by research findings
while the specific objectives are to review and synthesis
the conflict situations in Afar and Kereyou communities;
propose intervention areas to transform conflict and
build peace; and recommend the roadmap to sustain peace

The Second National
Conference on Poverty Reduction Strategy and Pastoral
Development |

The Second
National Conference on Pastoral Development in Ethiopia
convened from May 22-23, 2001 and was attended by representative
from different organizations. The scenario that preceded
this conference was the issuance of an interim Poverty
Reduction Strategy Paper (I-PRSP) by the Ethiopia government
as part of the WB and IMF. On the conference overview

The First National Conference
on Pastoral Developmet in Ethiopia held

The major issues of
the first national conference was to look back at the
experience on pastoral development at the level of strategy
and implementation in order to identify crucial aspects
that need to constitute a pastoral development strategy
in the future. The participants were drown from various
background and different issues were raised such as
pastoralist in Ethiopia-the issues of viability, an
overview and analysis of the history of public policy
towards the development of Pastoralism in Ethiopia,
NGO's grossroots strategies and experience in pastoral
development, an overview of government policy interventions
in pastoral areas: achievements, constraints and prospects.
